    Mississippi


Did you ever want to know if Elvis had a twin, or want to visit a beach to visit in Mississippi, or even how long ago the Mississippi flag was placed? Then keep on reading because these things are what make Mississippi special.

Elvis Presley was born in Tupelo Mississippi.   Elvis Presley was/is so popular from his rock and roll, he was also in so, so many movies. Elvis was great at music. Elvis was a twin to Jesse Garon Presley, unfortunately Jesse did not survive, Elvis was called the twin-less brother. Elvis got haunted by it all of his life. Elvis was an actor and singer, he played rock and roll and was in at least 29 movies.Elvis married a woman named Priscilla Presley, he got married on May 1 1967. Right now, Priscilla is 71 years old (from 2017).Elvis had a daughter on February 1 1968. Lisa (Elvis’s daughter) was only 9 when Elvis died. Elvis died on August 22 1977. He was 42 when he died. He died in Memphis Tennessee, he had a heart attack. People were devastated when he died.

       A lot of people come to the Gulf Islands National Seashore in Mississippi for lots of visits and vacation. The Gulf Islands National Seashore is loaded with miles and miles of beaches. Did you know there is over 80% of marine life at the seashore?! The national seashore was established on January 8, 1971. It was placed between the barrier of Mississippi and Florida. There is so many beautiful sightings, almost everywhere. It is in the southern of Mississippi. The seashore was built from 1794 to the 1940s.

     The Mississippi flag was adopted by the Mississippi state. The Mississippi flag has three stripes, red, white and blue, the order that it goes is blue, white, then red. On the left hand, top corner there is a little square with a blue x in the square that is filled in with stars, the background of it is red. It is very similar to the U.S. flag. It was adopted in April, 1894. The flag is also known as the mongolian flag. The flag represents the number of Confederate states. There are multiple states with the Confederate flag in it, including Mississippi. The Mississippi flag was not an official flag official until April in 1894! It was replacing the flag that was adopted in 1861.

Without these special people, places, and things Mississippi would not have been the same at all. Elvis Presley was a rock and roll sensation, The Gulf Islands National Seashore is a great place to visit, and the Mississippi flag represents the number of Confederate states. Now you know more about Mississippi.

Have you ever been to Florida? If not then here are some reasons to go because you find many tourist attractions. Did you know Florida has the most interesting tourist attractions in America. Including Disney, Universal Studios and the Kennedy Space Center

Disney is a magical place for family and friends.
In 1971 the ticket cost was $3.50. It is a surprise that tickets now a day cost oven 100 dollars. Disney is the size of San Francisco.  Wow that's pretty big.  The ride Spaceship Earth in Disney weighs up to a whopping 16 million pounds! Disney's Animal Kingdom Tree of Life is as tall as a 14 story building and has over 300 animal carvings on it! Walt Disney world first opened in 1971. It is 45 years old wow that's old!
The estimated attendance is about 48 million people every year.  Mickey mouse used to be called Mortimer mouse.Strange enough Doritos where originated from leftover tortilla chips in Disney wow! That is my info about Disney. On to the next...




663px-Universal_Pictures_svg.pngUniversal Studios Orlando has had many rides but in the past most of them have been taken down.The park has many rides and attractions some including  Kong Skull Island, Harry Potter, Minions and many more so if you go there you will have a lot of fun
In 1964, the admission cost was about 0.25 cents most of the relatives of the many founders cast as tour guides and sometimes you might be lucky to see a director as a tour guide! The first ride to ever be created there was E.T the ride it was introduced in 1991. The studio has its own fire department and many doctors. The Jurassic Park ride was the most expensive ride built!



download.pngKennedy Space Center (KSC) was opened in 1962. Originally named Cape Canaveral, it was renamed the Kennedy Space Center in honor of John F. Kennedy.

The center is only closed on launch days and Christmas every other day it is open for business. Neil Armstrong and his two Apollo 11 crewmates crashed in the Pacific ocean after launching from KSC. They sometimes launch rockets there! Don't worry because there is a visitor center so you don't stand under a rocket when it launches.  KSC is 219 square miles KSC has about 1.5 million guests a year the LOD was renamed launch operations center.     

      Now you know why Florida has the most interesting tourist attractions in America. I think that these tourist attractions are my favorite.

Did you ever wonder if there were any interesting historical facts about Alabama. Did you know that Alabama changed the United States! In my research I found some interesting historical facts such as building the first trolley! I wrote about three!

One of the most important historical things Alabama did was that they built the first rocket to put humans on the moon. For example the other rockets were not able to carry humans.  The rocket was built in Huntsville. It was built on October 27 1961. The first rocket did not make it to the moon. The first rocket to get to the moon was on the eleventh  try. It was a different model than the first one.

Another historical thing that happened in Alabama was that Montgomery was the capital and birthplace of the confederate states. The confederate states are Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas,Louisiana,Virginia,West Virginia,North Carolina,South Carolina, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia,and Florida.For example most of the south east region. They fought against the north in the civil war. They wanted to have slaves and the North did not. The North won. The Confederate states wanted to win because they were too lazy to do the crop work themselves.

Another historical event was the world's first electric trolley system was introduced in Montgomery. The trolley made his debut in 1886. A trolley looks a bus. The trolley quickly made it way to be in every continent. For example every one wanted a trolley once it came out. There were no cars so everyone would ride them. A trolley draws power from overhead wires.

Now you now you know some interesting historical facts about Alabama. If Alabama was not a state there would not have been a Civil War. Alabama is the best historical state.

On November 4th, 1952 there was an earthquake in Kamchatka, Russia. 10,000 people died and it had a 8.9-9.0 of magnitude. Also on May 22nd 1960 there was an earthquake in Southern Chile. 1,655 people died and it had a magnitude of 9.5.  Then on March 28th 1964, there was an earthquake in Prince William Sound, Alaska, USA. 131 people died and it had a magnitude of 9.2.  Then on December 26th 2004 there was an earthquake in Northern Sumatra, Indonesia (West Coast).  227,898 people died and it had a 9.1 of magnitude.  Finally, on March 11th, 2011 there was an earthquake in the North Coast of Japan.  15,891 people died and it had a 9.0 of magnitude.

Earthquakes are very dangerous so if you see one take cover. If the continents move to fast well it will cause an earthquake. Another way earthquakes start is when 2 or more plates hit and cause massive shaking. California and Alaska are the most common  place that have earthquakes in the United States of America and Japan has the most in Asia in fact they can affect a place for about 1 week to 1 year. Earthquakes are so powerful that they can cause tsunamis which can cause floods. Earthquakes can cause many natural disasters. Search dogs help find injured bodies under collapsed buildings. Now you know what could happen.

Poma Lift

If I won $100, I would give it to my mom.  I would want her to buy a poma lift for our really long driveway.  A poma lift is like a standing ski lift.  It would help us in the winter if anyone wanted  to get up or down our driveway.  That is because in the winter our driveway is as slippery as a water slide.  
Another reason I want to get a poma lift is because it is really cool.  My siblings and I would be able to sled down our driveway and just ride the lift back up to the top without having to climb back up.  
           Finally, I want a poma lift because I have always wanted to be able to control a ski life.  I have played games many times where I am the one who controls the lifts, and I have always thought it was fun.  By having my own poma lift, I could go play with it whenever I am bored at home.    
Having a poma lift at my house would be totally awesome.  It would help people get up the driveway, it would be fun to play with, and my siblings and I could even use it for sledding.  If I had $100, I would definitely put it toward a poma lift.

Have you wondered who Patrick Henry is? He is one of the most important people in american history. He wrote the most important quotes in American history. Here are some words to describe him a warrior, a trickster, a quote taker.


Patrick Henry was born on May 29,1736 in Virginia. Patrick had 10 brothers and sisters. As a kid he liked to hunt and fish for fun. Patrick Henry’s father was a tobacco farmer and judge.He went to a one room school and his father tutored him. One of his first jobs was at a store with his brother William. He got married to Sarah Shelton. Then they bought a farm together. Then the farm house burned down and Sarah moved in with her parents.                                                                                   

Young Patrick had realized he liked to argue politics. Patrick decided to become a lawyer in 1760. He was a very successful as a lawyer. He handled tons of cases. Patrick's first big case was the Parsons case. It was about a local priest arguing with the King of England.  One of his first cases was against the Stamp  Act. It was about the prices of tobacco and where the money should go to. He represented Virginia in court on the stamp act. In 1765 he became a member of the House of Burgesses. He was elected first Continental Congress. He had seventeen children. He had two wives his first wife died from cancer.

Why My Parents Make My Life Better


My parents are the most important teachers in my life.  I remember the time, my parents taught me not to trade Pokemon cards with kindergartners because they are little and do not know good trades from bad ones. They also taught me to always tell the truth because if you tell the truth people will tell the truth back to you. They told me that you will get more from doing the right thing than you will get if you do the wrong thing or sneaking.


My parents cheer me up when I’m sad. I will never forget the time when I was sad that I got 3rd place in a rock climbing competition, they told me that to be able to win some competitions you need to lose some as well. That made me feel a little better because I know that everyone had to experience the same thing that happened to me that day.  


My parents taught me to be brave and strong and never give up if you hit a bump in the road. For example when I was scared that there was going to be a bear when I went to get water when I was camping. They taught me how to trust myself and my instinct when something is good and when something is bad or wrong. This is why I think that my parents make my life better. I love that my parents are always there to help me!

Mississippi has a very rich history in the United States of America. It ranges from building the first nuclear submarine in the south, to the invention of Pine Sol in Jackson, Mississippi by Mississippian Harry A. Cole, Sr.
Mississippi was the second state to secede from the Union, on January 9, 1861. It joined six other states. Mississippi’s location on the Mississippi river made it strategically important to both sides of the war. A lot of battles were fought in Mississippi, partly for this reason. The Battle of Vicksburg took place in Vicksburg, Mississippi in 1863. It was one of the most important battles of the Civil war. The defeat lead to the Confederacy losing the entire war.
The University of Mississippi's opening was a important day in history for Mississippi. The University of Mississippi opened in 1848, for 23 years it was Mississippi's only college. The university achieved many things, it was one of the first in the nation to offer engineering, it was the fourth law school that was state supported in the nation. It was one of the first colleges in the south to allow women and the first to hire a woman. From its original 80 students, Ole Miss has grown to more than 21,500 students, and 15 academic divisions, and it is still continuing to expand. The University of Mississippi provides students with the academic skills necessary for a lifetime of scholastic, social, and professional growth.  
Hurricane Katrina was a hurricane that hit Mississippi hard. Hurricane Katrina first hit Mississippi in the morning of August 9, 2005, striking the coastline first. It was so powerful that many coastal towns were practically destroyed in a single night. According to Michigan news website “Dr. Eden Wells, clinical associate professor of epidemiology and director of the Preventive Medicine Residency at the School of Public Health, has research interests in emerging infectious disease threats, applied epidemiology and public health practice, including preparedness planning for public health emergency events.” "Katrina's massive impact on Gulf Coast communities continues to reverberate throughout the last decade," she said. "Public health and emergency managers across the nation take lessons learned from this past devastating event to work together towards strengthening and preparing communities. Public health emergencies like Katrina show that there is an ongoing need to plan, prepare and to improve response plans."  The forceful winds lasted over 17 hours, and created 11 tornadoes. The flooding was up to 6-12 miles. The worst damage was in coastal Mississippi. Many historic buildings were destroyed, and the flooding was horrible. Hurricane Katrina was a very hard hit on Mississippi and continues to remain in history.

Mississippi has a very rich history. It is the academic and founding history that makes Mississippi the place that it is.  It has influenced the rest of America.

Virginia Tourist Attractions

There are different tourist attractions in Virginia.  Three popular attractions are Virginia Aquarium, Mount Vernon, and Monticello.
The Virginia Aquarium has 10,000 animals for people to see. There are exhibits for people to see the different animals. Some of the animals that people can see are sand tiger sharks, cownose rays, harbor seals, loggerhead turtles, and North American River otters.  
They have boat trips where people get to see different animals such as dolphins. The dolphin boat trip is 90 minutes and you will be able to listen for dolphins using an underwater microphone. You also learn how they communicate and how to protect its environment.
Mount Vernon is 15 miles south of Washington, D.C. It is also on the Potomac River. Mount Vernon was the home of George Washington and his wife, There are also beautiful gardens, a museum, and a education center.
Monticello is Thomas Jefferson’s home. He started building and designing his house at age 26. It is in Charlottesville, Virginia. There are tours of his house and historic gardens.

Traveling to Mars

“Come on!” I yelled back as I yanked my dad’s arm.

“Okay!” he said pulling his arm back. My sisters Stephanie and Samantha had to run to catch up with us. The wait took about five minutes. We were next in line and my hands were shaking, my stomach felt like it was on a endless loopy-loop flipping up and down again and again.

“I want to be the captain!” I quickly blurted out.

“It depends,” my dad said in a firm voice. I decided to trust him because he's done it before. It was our turn. I got on last. The ship was dark and had very few lights. I looked to see who to see what job I got. Believe it or not I was the captain. My dad was second in charge, Stephanie was the navigator and Samantha were engineers.
¨This place needs barf bags,¨ Stephanie commented. We all let out a chuckle.

¨Get ready for take off!¨ my dad yelled acting all professional.

¨Hey shouldn't I say that?¨ I asked all confused. As the take off button lit up and started to blink.

I yelled, ¨Get ready for take off!¨ I quickly pounded the button and started the countdown.
¨10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 take off!¨ I hollered and there was a super loud sound. My heart was beating so fast and loud I thought everyone could hear it. There was a louder sound and then we were in space. Everything was going smoothly until we all heard.

¨Engine failing! Engine failing!¨

Samantha read my mind and already started the backup engine. Samantha had to report back to base.

She said ¨We had some engine trouble but we were ok.¨ As soon as she hung up and asteroid was about to hit us. I grabbed the steering wheel turned off auto pilot. I was so happy that my long brown hair was in a ponytail because it would be in my face and I wouldn't be able to see. I made a sharp left and everything was ok. My dad reported back to base and told them everything that happened. I didn´t turn autopilot on again just in case. I kept steering then another asteroid was coming and it was 9 times as big as the other one. It must have been 50 feet wide and 20 feet tall. I quickly dove 30 feet and we made it.

¨It should be smooth sailing from here.¨ I said with a scared voice. We got back on track and were ok for now. Suddenly I saw something in the distance. I keep staring at trying to identify it. Then it hit me. It was Mars! That was destination this whole time. (Which I totally forgot about.) I was so excited. My lifelong dream is coming true. When found a good spot on Mars. We all had to help land. We all got out.

We all let out a ¨Wow!”or ¨Cool!¨ but I thought it was awesome, and it was.  I went through a hallway which went to the gift shop. There was mini space ships, shirts, photos, and snow globes. I saw my photo and I was smiling with fear. You couldn’t see on my picture that I was scared but I was.  But my sisters on the other hand look terrified. I was 6 but braver than my older sisters. My dad was smiling and not scared at all. But he went on the ride before. I was wonder how he looked when he went on the ride for the first time.

¨I really, really want to go again!¨ I said as I declared that this would be a day I will never ever forget.

Georgia is full of big tourist attractions. It is fun for all ages. The world of Coca Cola is there and so is the Georgia Aquarium. Also Martin Luther King used to live there.
Coca Cola is a big part of Georgia's history. Located in Atlanta, Georgia. The factory opened in August 3 1990. Frank M. Robinson was a part of naming the beverage Coca Cola as well as design the trademark that is still used today. The first servings of Coca Cola were 5 cents per glass . Sales averaged a modest nine servings a day in Atlanta today daily serving are  estimated 1.9 billion globally. John Pemberton Invented the Coca Cola  He fought in the Civil War at the end of the war he decided he wanted to make something that would give him  commercial success. Some of Coca Cola's biggest competitors are Dr Pepper, Snapple and Pepsi. Coca Cola is the most popular soda.

The Georgia Aquarium  helps to boost kids
imaginations  with the 500 species of animals they have. It is fascinating for all ages to watch the 100,000 of animals living there. It is amazing to think that there is 10 million gallons of water in it. It was founded on November 23, 2005. The Georgia Aquarium is the biggest aquarium in the world. Bernie Marcus donated 250 million dollars to the Georgia Aquarium.
Martin Luther King Jr. was born on Tuesday, January 15, 1929  in Atlanta, Georgia. He lived with his parents.  as well as his grandparents and his two siblings  Christine and Alfred Daniel Williams King. When  Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was older he helped people with dark colored skin to have the same equal rights as people with white colored skin. He made a speech called I have a dream that changed lives of people with dark colored skin forever. Martin was assassinated on April 4th, 1968  by James Earl Ray. It was a sad day for many people. He was buried in Atlanta, Georgia.
    Georgia is a great for tourist to go. Georgia is an amazing place to go. It is also exciting because Martin Luther King used to live there. If Martin Luther King wasn't born in Georgia people with dark colored skin  would not have the same right as people with white colored skin.

The Choice
“I don’t know Lila leave me alone.”
”Decide now!” my sister Lila screamed. I couldn't believe it my sister was still bothering and was still not leaving me alone.
My Dad stomped into the living room and shouted, “What are you two arguing about?”
Before Lila could say anything I said, “Lila wants to  know if I am doing the laser tag party or a party at our house.”
Dad said calmly, “Lila why do you want to know what  to know Owen’s answer?”
Lila whined, “I want to know just because I want to know so I know which to invite to Owen's birthday party.”
My Mom had just came in the room and the first thing she did was sit in between me and my sister. I guess she knew we were angry at each other.
Lila mumbled, “Owen can be really annoying sometimes.”
“I AM NOT ANNOYING LILA.”
“Lila leave Owen alone,” Mom said, “Owen thank you for not getting mad at your sister. “
After that I went to my room to rest and take a break from Lila.  When it was dinner time Lila started asking questions AGAIN! But Dad gave her a glare and she stopped talking.
School was out on the last two days before my birthday party so that gave a lot of time for Lila to annoy me and I only had two weeks to chose! After dinner I went to bed. I woke up for breakfast and my TV shows.  I watched one of my favorite shows Star Wars The Clone Wars then ate a breakfast.  I was happy because Lila hadn’t even woken up yet. I spoke too soon a minute later Lila came down and sat down and said, “Well have you made up your mind yet Owen??  Is it laser tag?” she said nervously.
That is when I made that ended the choice I said,  “Yes I have--it is laser tag.” Lila screamed, “NOOOOO!!”

The Wichita Falls Tornado with 120,000 residents was one of the widest tornado ever! The Mountain tornado in West Virginia had a wind speed up to 215 mph and 97 lives were lost. The Joplin tornado was the third worst tornado in United States history. A tornado in South Dakota was the whitest tornado that was recorded on earth!

The Tri-state tornado was the worst tornado in the United States. It hit the states of Missouri,Illinois, and Indiana. The Oklahoma City tornado that had a wind speed of 318 mph was the highest wind speed on Earth. Again the Joplin tornado was the most costliest. The worst tornado ever recorded on Earth was in Bangladesh which was the worst ever! The Gainesville tornado was really bad killing lots people.The St.Louis Tornado was bad The Natchez tornado killed the most people in Mississippi.The El Nino was the tenth worst in the United States.

Kentucky Climate


Do you ever wonder about Kentucky climate? Kentucky climate is very unique to the United States.
Kentucky is in the middle of two major climate zones in the United States, subtropical and continental.  Subtropical means sticky hot summers and mild winters. Continental means sticky hot summers and a cold winter.The reason that Kentucky is in the middle of two climate zones is because Kentucky is considered a south state and a north state.
Eighty-eight degrees is a normal July day in Kentucky. The average temperature in the summer is 85 degrees. But in months like March it is around 65 degrees. Kentucky usually has humid summers. But the heat there doesn't just give you sunburn, it affects crops.  “One of the biggest challenges that producers face, and particularly in areas like Kentucky, which is kind of a transition state between the southern states and the northern states, is we can expect increased volatility in our weather,” Hatfield said. “And probably the parameter that impacts it the most is precipitation.” The highest recorded temperature is 114 degrees Fahrenheit, which was recorded July 24, 1946. Kentucky gets around 47 inches of rain each year.
Forty-one degrees is a normal day in January for Kentucky. Kentucky does not get a lot of snow. That's because it is in the subtropical climate zone.  Kentucky usually it gets 10 to 20 inches of snow each year. But in a state like Indiana, they get 20 to 40 inches of snow each year. The coldest temperature ever recorded in Kentucky was minus 41 degrees!

THE FIRST TIME RYAN RODE HIS BIKE



Ryan was in the morning eating cereal for   breakfast. He was eating Cinnamon Toast Crunch. It smells like leaves all around him. Ryan`s sparking blue eyes was shining in the light. After his breakfast he told his mom and dad to come outside and help him ride his new red bike he got for his fifth birthday. Ryan was in kindergarten. Ryan wanted a bike that had two wheels. He said,  “I want a bike that has two wheels not four.” While his mom and dad got their clothes on and grab their new iPhone 7s to record Ryan riding his new red bike, Ryan got his helmet and a knee pads that came with the bike, and his dad made sure they were on tight. He had a four year old sister and a four year old brother and they came outside to watch. His brother and sister started to play tag (they tried to get away with it) and Ryan told them to watch because he wants to show them he can ride his new red bike.
“Ok,” his brother and sister said.
Ryan got on his new bike his dad held the bike so Ryan could get on.
Ryan said, “Don't let it go!”
And guess what ... his dad let go. When he went down the driveway he fell and said “I'm OK I’m not bleeding”. Ryan said” why did you let go, I told you NOT to let go””ok fine” said his dad.
He got back up and fell again.
“I am OK!” He got back on the bike and this time he knew he could do it. He took a deep breath and took off, his mom started the iPhone and he started peddling away and they all cheered!
Then, “Whoo Whoo!” He turned his bike around and went back to his mom and dad and he didn't know how to stop his bike!
“How do I stop my bike?” he yelled.
“See that black round thing on the handlebars press that!” his dad said.  He did and he started stopping a little at a time and Ryan's mom and dad rushed over to him and gave him hugs.
“So now I know how to ride my bike!” said Ryan. “None of my friends know how to ride their(bikes except for the training ones)and I can ride anywhere!”
“Only on the driveway in only if mom and dad are there,” his Dad said.
“OK,” said Ryan.

The lesson of this story is try, try again.
