 Introduction

In this book you will learn about Chickens. Here is an interesting fact about Chickens, the scientific name for the chicken is called Gallus domesticus. “ Weird right?  I would not think that chickens would have a name like that.” Free stock photos of chick · Pexels
Well, in this book you will learn a lot about the chicken. You will learn facts about the chicken “like the fact I just told you,” all about the egg and the process of a chick can being born..

Facts about the chicken

In this chapter I will talk to you about lots of interesting facts about the chicken and about chickens.
Chickens are domestic birds that can't fly . There are hens, which are the females, and roosters that are males. Chicks that are the babies. And bantams that are miniature chickens that only grow about half the size of a regular chicken. The scientific name for the chicken is Gallus domesticus. “ Did you know that chickens legs are developed from dinosaur legs?” Well i did not know that either. But it is because birds have developed from bird-like dinosaurs.File:Buff Brahma bantam at poultry show.jpg - Wikimedia CommonsFree photo: Tyrannosaurus, Dinosaur, Prehistory - Free Image on ...
A group of chickens is called a flock. And roosters are brightly colored and have a large comb. A comb is the rubber looking usually red thing at the top of their head. Also, roosters make loud crowing sounds and can be quite aggressive. The eggs can be brown, white, blue, pink, green, and other pale colors.File:Brown Leghorn rooster in Australia.jpg - Wikimedia Commons
They like to eat insects, worms, fruit, seeds, acorns, grains, slugs, snails, vegetables, meat, and more. So that they can eat this food, they have something called a gizzard. It is part of their stomach that contains stones to grind up food. This is because chickens don't have teeth. Their predators are usually skunks, owls, racoons, hawks, snakes, coyotes, bobcats, opossums, and people.
They also have wattles that hang their neck, earlobes on the side of their head, claws, and rich blood supply. They weigh from 1.1 pounds to 11 pounds and their eggs are used in many vaccines. That is lots of facts about the chicken.

The Egg
This chapter is about the process of laying a chicken egg. Egg as food - Wikipedia
To lay the egg the egg starts as just a yolk inside of the hen. The yolk is produced by the hens ovary in a process called ovulation. Ovary is where the egg are produced. The yolk is released into the oviduct where it can be fertilized internally by a sperm. Oviduct is a long spirally tube in the hens reproductive system. The yolk continues down the oviduct and is covered with a membrane, structural fibers, and layers of aluminum. This part of the oviduct is called the magnus. As the egg goes down the oviduct it is continually rotating within the spiraling tube. The movement twists the structural fibers which form rope-like strands that anchor the yolk in the egg white. There are 2 chalazae anchoring the yolk on opposite ends of the egg.
The eggshell is deposited around the egg in the lower part of the oviduct of the hen before it is laid. The shell is made of calcite a crystalline form of calcium carbonate.
This entire trip takes about one day according to what kind of chicken it is that is laying the egg.

Jail Fail

I was sitting on the hot cement holding back my tears. Blood was dripping down my ankle like a river. Stars danced in front of my face. I couldn’t exactly remember what happened, but I knew that something had happened to me.
“Ava! You comin’ yet?” I heard Olivia screech from outside. I grabbed a lay’s sour cream and onion chip and strolled outside. Today was Memorial Day. Which means well, party at my house. Most of my family came over and some friends came over. Including two of mine. Olivia and Maddie.
“Ya, i’m comin’!” I finally answered. I sprinted out the back door. I had just changed out of my bathing suit and into dry clothes. Each time I took a step I could feel the cold water from my hair drip down my back like a long waterfall. I guess they aren’t dry clothes after all.
“We’re still gonna play cops now, right?” Maddie asked in a little confusion.
“Yeah. Also can I be “The Bad Guy” first?” I asked with quotations. Olivia and Maddie looked at each other for a split second and nodded yes.
I ran to grab my scooter. I lean over and grab the black, foam handle bar. I started to speed past my mom’s jeep, and down the short driveway. I felt the wind hit my neck as I scooter pretty fast. I take a quick glance next to me to see Olivia right beside me, but the next thing I know is that Olivia is arresting me for speeding.
“Put your hands behind your back and stay put!” Olivia yelled at me.
“Come on man,” I yell back to her.
She answers, “Well maybe next time you shouldn’t go past the speed limit!” At that very moment I realize what should be the jail stall.
“Wait! Pause the game for a minute. I think the jail stall should be my big tent!” I remarked. Olivia and Maddie thought for a quick second until Maddie started walking over to the tent.
“Great idea! Now back to the game,” Maddie answered as starting to sprint to the tent. As Maddie starts to get pretty close to the tent, Olivia walks me up to “the jail stall”.
“Open up the stall!” Olivia yells to Maddie even though they are standing right next to each other.
“Yes sir!” Maddie replies even though we’re all girls. Maddie flips the curtain type thing wa’ll Olivia throws me in.
When Maddie closes the curtain type thing she says,”Hey, time for training.” Olivia nods her head and they both run to the front yard. I look through the curtain, and at the sun. I smile at it almost as if it’s smiling back.
About thirty seconds later I was bored. So of course, I escaped. I ran to the front, and hid behind a bush. I sort of figured out myself what they were doing. They each had one lacrosse stick. Both of them were hitting at a  squishy frog I got from the school store. When Maddie got the frog she ran like the wind, wa’ll Olivia was trying to hit the frog out of her stick. Sooner or later I really wanted to play, so I ran out of the bush toward the lacrosse sticks. I grabbed a lacrosse stick and joined in on their fun.
“Hey! You’re not supposed to be here,” Maddie yelled at me.
I answered, “Can I pretty please play? It is so boring in that little jail stall! Plus I already know how to play,” Maddie thought for a long, hard amount of time.
“Fine! But only for five minutes,” she finally answered. My heart started to dance. I ran over to where they were both hitting the sticky frog. It looked like Maddie had already told Olivia I could play.
After three minutes or so went by, I had a plan on how to escape jail. All I had to do was get the frog. So of course, I hit the frog and hit it until I finally got it. I ran to the part of the yard closest to my scooter. As soon as I got there I threw the frog all the way to the other side of the yard. My plan was starting. I dropped my lacrosse stick and ran for my scooter.
But before I even got there I could already hear Olivia yelling,”Get her!” It must have been the funniest voice ever because we all started cracking up. Until I started to run again. I ran as fast as I possibly could up the driveway. I grabbed my scooter off of the patio and scootered. Olivia and Maddie were catching up to me. I turn my head to get a quick glance at them but next thing I know, I’m lying on the ground in pain. Lots of pain.
This is when it happened. I was sitting on the hot cement holding back my tears. Blood was dripping down my ankle like a river. Stars danced in front of my face. I knew something had happened to me. I try to sit up and make out two people walking toward me They both looked like blurry blobs. I just kept blinking, and blinking and blinking until I could see clear again. My mom was cleaning up my bloody ankle. I grabbed an ace bandage I saw right next to me, and wrapped it around my ankle.
“Are you ready to get up?” I heard Olivia ask me. I nod my head yes. Olivia and Maddie grab my arms to help me get up.
“Maybe you should wear shoes next time,” I heard my mom yell to me.
“Good idea!” I yell back sarcastically. I was in a little pain but I could definitely play a game. But before we did anything I grabbed some flip flops and threw them on.
“How about this time we play traffic cop. Ava can be the traffic cop and sit on a stool on the patio,” Olivia suggested.
“Yes! Also maybe Chase and Andy can play to!” I answer. Maddie nods her head and grabs a scooter.
We played traffic cop for a pretty long time because about two hours later my dad said we could make some s’mores.
You guys have to go get the logs yourself though,” he told us. I nodded my head until he saw me. Olivia, me, and Maddie walked behind the fence and into the woods. We each tried to find the perfect sticks and logs. Sooner or later we were already making the bonfire and eating some s’mores. My brother burped out of nowhere. Me,Olivia, and Maddie started to chuckle until it turned into lots of big laughs.  We all looked at each other and Maddie had s’more goo all over her hands. We all laughed and laughed until outerspace.

Colonial Tavern
Introduction
The Colonial tavern was a gathering place. Also, it was a place where people ate and drank. It was a restaurant-like place. In addition, it was like a hotel. Travellers went there to rent bedrooms. Almost every house had a garden. Also, they had some materials that we have now like a strainer or a frying pan. An interesting fact is that a tavern was a place of business people gather to drink alcoholic beverages.

What Was the Gathering Place?
People went to the tavern’s to, talk, eat, drink, rent bedrooms, relax,to play games, and dance. Also a tavern was a place of people who gather and drink alcoholic beverages. Mostly travelers would rent bedrooms because they were passing through and they needed a place to sleep. They would play games like cards, they also gambled.

What Food/Drinks Did They Have?
Colonials Americans ate a variety of foods depending on where they live. Many homes had gardens where they grew vegetables and herbs. They also started growing beans, pumpkins, squash, and wheat. They ate cattle, peanut soup, clams, cod, sea bass, and shepherd’s pie.
They drank beer and wine from babies to ministers. They couldn’t drink water because they thought it would kill them. Kids could also drink wine or beer because there was no law on kids drinking. The materials they used to cook was toasting fork, trivet, saucepan, spider (frying pan), bake kettle, strainer, and gridiron (broiler).

Conclusion
In conclusion, taverns of Colonial times were a lot different than taverns and gathering places today. Taverns are a gathering place where people ate and drank. They used different materials and some of the same materials that we use today. Would you like to eat or drink at a colonial tavern or a tavern we have know?

THE CLIMBING TREE
INTRODUCTION
SLAM!!!  ¨Last one to the tree is a rotten chicken!¨ yelled my 8 year old brother Brennan. I sighed, of course I thought  Brennan will always get in a race if he can I thought about telling him to not race, but  he was to far away to hear me. With another sigh I followed after him to our tree…
SOME INFO

Before we get the afternoon started, let me tell you some facts about me.
1.  I was 6 when this story happened.
2. This day was when we just moved and are new to the closeness of houses
Before we continue let me come to my defense. I was six so I did some weird things. Now with that being said let's get back to reality...
OUTSIDE PART 1
Once I got outside I saw Brennan on my branch. Sitting there, just sitting there. Waiting for me to begin the daily afternoon. And.. I did. Honestly. Our daily afternoon here was for me to climb the tree and then we start playing. I swung from my branch and Brennan climbed up. That day was nothing special. It was like any normal day.
But when my brother was looking for nothing in particular, he happened to come along our new school. “”Hey!”” he yelled. “”Do you see something?”” I asked. “”Yeah I can!!”” His voice was shrill with excitement. I look up. Trust me, when I looked up, I almost fell out of the tree. When I looked up I saw my brother looking at me with surprise in his face. “”What does it look like?”” I asked. For some reason I could tell that he was talking about South School.”Awesome” he replied. He looked. “It looks big.”” Was all he said. Then he said, “Let's go inside, I’m sure that you have homework to do to”, he continued. You got a point. I thought. Then we ran inside…
INSIDE
“”My homework is really easy.”” I bragged once we got inside. “Okay my brother said.” Then I went to get my homework from my backpack. Two minutes later…  “Done!!” I yelled in triumph. My brother was still doing his homework. While he was doing it I lounged about the house. I looked for nothing in particular but came upon my brother going outside. I went outside just in time for us to continue playing…
MORE INFO!!
Now, we just moved from my aunt's house so we weren't that used to the loud noise of cars, and felt like we were trespassing  on other people's property.  But remember we didn't know that it would be noisy and crowded  in new canaan. All we knew was that we needed a smaller house to start our new family  so we chose the house that we lived in then, when I was six. But anyway before you get it out of me, let us continue…
Outside Part 2
“Yeah mom I will just give me a few seconds”

“Oh, you're back already?” That's a surprise.” “Well now that you're here let's continue the story. “Oh by the way sorry about that” But anyway my brother asked if he could get my ball. “Sure” I replied. at least that gave me a few seconds of freedom. Then my brother came back and we started playing soccer. I was pretty good at soccer, but I wasn't that good. The game was kinda short. The score was something like 6-3, but it took a little time to get each goal. After a while, I started getting bored. “Can we go inside?” I asked. “Sure it is getting pretty late.” my brother replied. Then Off we went to go to sleep and wait for another exciting day...

Rebellion

Rebellion

What is this?

“Our cruel and unrelenting enemy leaves us no choice but a brave resistance or the most abject submission.”

               -George Washington

This quote comes from General George Washington, the leader of the Continental army in the American Revolution. The war started with growing tension between the 13 Colonies and Great Britain. There are many significant battles in the war. We can also know how powerful the rebels really were. They had many names for British soldiers. The American Patriots are a lot more important and interesting then you would think.

What started the Rebellion?
Great Britain passed laws known as the intolerable acts. These include the Tea act and the Stamp act.
The tea act was when the British made it so that only people could buy British tea, not their own, American tea. People hated this.
The Stamp act was when the British taxed all paper objects,so you needed to pay for a stamp to own the paper.
another event that the Americans didn’t like was the Boston Massacre. This is when people were rioting at 8 soldiers and they fired into the riot. 5 died. The most well known death was Crispus attucks, who was a former slave who worked in the Boston Harbor.
The most well known sign of rebellion in response to the tea act is the boston tea party. This was when patriots dressed up as indians and dumped millions of today's money in the Boston Harbor. In response to the tax-related acts, patriots tarred and feathered tax collectors.

What were some great battles?
The battles of Lexington and Concord were the first military engagements of the Revolutionary War. The Americans won both. They were fought on April 19, 1775, in Middlesex County, Province of Massachusetts Bay, within the towns of Lexington, Concord, Lincoln, Menotomy (present-day Arlington), and Cambridge, near Boston.
The Battle of Lexington was a very small fight. You could hardly call it a battle, but it's important because it's where the Revolutionary War started. When the British arrived, there were only around 80 American militiamen in the town. They were led by Captain John Parker. They were up against a much larger British force led by Major John Pitcairn. Neither side expected to actually fight, but in the midst of the confusion a gunshot went off forcing the British to attack. That was either stupid or too much ambition to fight. Some of the colonists were killed and the rest fled. The gunshot was the first shot of the American Revolution and the start of the war. It was called the "shot heard around the world" by Ralph Waldo Emerson in his poem,Concord Hymn. No one is actually sure if it was an American or British soldier who fired the shot. I think that it was British. Now let's move on to Concord.

After the Americans fled from Lexington, the British marched to the city of Concord. When they first got to Concord, they met little resistance and began to search the town for the militia's hidden stash of weapons and munitions. The Americans had retreated to the outskirts of Concord and observed the British from other side of the North Bridge. as the Americans waited, more and more local militiamen arrived making their forces stronger and stronger. The Americans decided to cross the North Bridge back into Concord. They defeated the British troops at the North Bridge, giving the Americans renewed confidence. The Americans were a lot more dedicated, which I think is helpful.

Soon the British commander, Colonel Francis Smith, realised that the American militia resistance was rapidly growing and it was time to retreat. Once the British decided to retreat, they began the long march back to the city of Boston. The Americans continued to gain forces and continued to attack and harass the British during their retreat. By the time the British reached Boston they had lost 73 men and 174 were wounded. The Americans lost 49 men and 41 were wounded.

another significant battle was the battle of Bunker Hill, which was fought early in the Revolutionary War. The British defeated the Americans at the Battle. It took place on June 17, 1775 in Massachusetts. Despite their loss, the inexperienced colonial forces inflicted significant casualties against the enemy, and the battle provided them with an important confidence boost. The name is not accurate, because most of it was fought on Breed's Hill. The purpose of the battle was for the British to gain more ground on the Americans.

These were two significant battles early in the revolutionary war. Try to imagine if you were an American and/or a British soldier. See what it was like from both points of view.

Subtopic #3: Great Britain vs. US: How Powerful?
Great Britain probably had more manpower than the US. They had better supplies. They also had about ⅔ of the indians on their side. They were a good army.
But the US had some tricks up its sleeve too. For example, Great Britain had to obey battle formations so they were out in the open. US  had battle formations, but they also went stealth. They could sneak attack. They knew their terrain much better than Great Britain.
They also were fighting for a cause: freedom. a man fighting for a cause is a lot more powerful than a man just obeying orders from a king. Even some British soldiers accepted this.

 Fun Facts about Rebellion:
  • a bad name for British soldiers is “Redcoats”
  • Most people don’t know that most of the colonists were neutralists.
  • Colonists in America wanted independence from England.
  • The American Revolution, also known as the Revolutionary War, began in 1775.
  • British soldiers and American patriots started the war with battles at Lexington and Concord, Massachusetts.
  • The colonies wanted England to have no control over them.
  • For ten years before the war actually started, there was a lot of tension between England and the colonies.
  • George Washington, a former military officer and wealthy Virginian, was appointed Commander in Chief of the Continental Army.
  • Members of the Continental Congress wrote a letter to King George of England outlining their complaints and declaring their independence from England.
  • On July 4, 1776, the Continental Congress adopted the Declaration of Independence, in which the colonies declared their independence from England
  • The war ended in 1783, and the United States of America was born.
  •

Conclusion

You have read about how the seed was planted for the war. You have also learned 3 significant battles early in the Revolutionary war. You then read about the strength of both armies. You should've learned a lot. The war was a huge event. There is a lot more to it than this report. It is very right that the Americans won  the war. The British should have seen the war and it’s outcome coming. They should have noticed how the Americans really wanted to be independant.

Think about it
What do think would happen if George Washington was not the leader of the Continental army?

   Women's Lacrosse

Introduction
Lacrosse is a very fast sport. I will talk about women's lacrosse. In women's lacrosse, There are many rules that you have to follow. Also, the equipment that is used is much different than men's equipment. Women's lacrosse is an amazing sport.

Rules of the game
Women's lacrosse is a sport with, in my opinion, a lot  of rules. I will talk about most of them.
While in the ¨scoring area¨ no one (except the goalkeeper) is allowed in the crease, which is a nine foot circle around the goal. This rule is for safety for the goalie because the ball is very hard and the ball is being thrown at the goalie at top speed.
Also, there are three positions, defense, offense, and midfield. The defence stays in the opponent's offencive zone, and vice versa. The midfield can run the field without any restrictions. If the yellow line is the line that the defence can’t cross, and the dark green line is where the offence can’t cross, this is what it looks like:
In women’s lacrosse, body contact is not allowed.
Also, there is a 18 inch sphere  around your head that defenders can’t put their sticks in, otherwise it is a penalty.
Also, there is either a major foul or a minor foul. When it is a major foul, defending player is placed  4 meters behind fouled player. When it is a minor foul, the offending player is placed 4 meters off, in the direction she came in. In the scoring area, when either a minor or major foul is given, the player is given a penalty shot. For a penalty shot, the fouled player is placed 8 meters away from goal. Every one has to also stay 8 meters away from the goal except the goalie. The fouled player can run in and score.
The last rule I will talk about is checking. In women’s lacrosse, checking above the shoulder is not allowed. When you are in a team that is under 9 years old, no checking is allowed. Checking is a major foul.
Also, in women’s lacrosse, there must be 12 people on the field at all times.
