Women's Lacrosse
Introduction
Lacrosse is a very fast sport. I will talk about women's lacrosse. In women's lacrosse, There are many rules that you have to follow. Also, the equipment that is used is much different than men's equipment. Women's lacrosse is an amazing sport.
Rules of the game
Women's lacrosse is a sport with, in my opinion, a lot of rules. I will talk about most of them.
While in the ¨scoring area¨ no one (except the goalkeeper) is allowed in the crease, which is a nine foot circle around the goal. This rule is for safety for the goalie because the ball is very hard and the ball is being thrown at the goalie at top speed.
Also, there are three positions, defense, offense, and midfield. The defence stays in the opponent's offencive zone, and vice versa. The midfield can run the field without any restrictions. If the yellow line is the line that the defence can’t cross, and the dark green line is where the offence can’t cross, this is what it looks like:
In women’s lacrosse, body contact is not allowed.
Also, there is a 18 inch sphere around your head that defenders can’t put their sticks in, otherwise it is a penalty.
Also, there is either a major foul or a minor foul. When it is a major foul, defending player is placed 4 meters behind fouled player. When it is a minor foul, the offending player is placed 4 meters off, in the direction she came in. In the scoring area, when either a minor or major foul is given, the player is given a penalty shot. For a penalty shot, the fouled player is placed 8 meters away from goal. Every one has to also stay 8 meters away from the goal except the goalie. The fouled player can run in and score.
The last rule I will talk about is checking. In women’s lacrosse, checking above the shoulder is not allowed. When you are in a team that is under 9 years old, no checking is allowed. Checking is a major foul.
Also, in women’s lacrosse, there must be 12 people on the field at all times.
