Jamestown
Did you know that more than half of Jamestown's population was wiped out the first two days? Well, they did. In this article you will learn about the hardships the colonists had to face such as swamp land and native's. You will learn why Jamestown was founded and why it was named what it was. Next, you will learn about how Jamestown survived all of the horrible, horrible Hardships. Do you know why Jamestown was founded?
Jamestown was founded by a group of rich men that King James put together. Jamestown was the second settlement in America ,the one before being Roanoke, and Roanoke was not successful. But King James was hopeful. All the settlers wanted to strike it rich and find tons of gold. Little they know they wouldn't find any.
Who was the Jamestown governor ?
John smith became governor after Jamestown lost half its population on the second day. During winter John Smith made everyone work even the richest gentlemen who usually have slaves working for them.”Don't work don't eat” that is what John Smith said that winter and that led Jamestown to success. Late winter John Smith was captured by the algonquins, the algonquins put his head on stones at that moment he thought he was going to die, and he was right chief Massasoit was about to kill him with a large stone but then a woman named Pocahontas she laid her head on John smith's head and begged chief Massasoit for mercy, and a treaty was formed.
What did the settlers have to face?
Every single colony has hardships that will
all be faced, if the colony leaves it for too long it could wipe out the entire colony .After the ship ride to the new world people began to get hasty to set up camp once they did they knew they we're in for trouble when their camp got ambushed by natives called the algonquins the ambush was devastating their was tomahawks we're flying to and fro slicing through flesh splashing blood everywhere, those who tried to hide in their tents would have arrows piercing through the wool and linen and puncturing the arms, legs, stomach, and head of the human unlucky enough to be inside. After two days of this, their we're less than half left standing. Since most of the tents we're wiped out they had to work hard to build real shelters while they were building mosquitoes carrying malaria bit the colonist. Malaria is a disease that mosquitoes carry that causes death and it's contagious so one death is death, death, death, and more death. Winter was another problem in Jamestown people would not know where to find food so they would die of hunger or eat each other. Their was a man who killed and chopped up his own wife and salted the pieces so he could eat her. When he was almost done, someone found him and his punishment was to be murdered.
How did they survive?
As you know John Smith was the key for Jamestown's success because he made everyone work that winter and only 18 colonists died, Another key factor is that Massasoit died and was taken over by his brother who broke the treaty in order to attack Jamestown but the second they tried to attack Jamestown ,which has grown a lot ,they fought back when it was over the Algonquins were defeated but in the process killed 387 colonists. No more natives meant no more fights. Though they didn't find any gold John Rolfe invented a sweet tasting tobacco that England loved so they got lots of money and there wish for fortune came true.
The success of Jamestown led to pilgrims traveling to Massachusetts for religious freedom.

Would YOU survive a native attack?
Pretend you were a colonist and it was you first day and you were setting up camp when a barrage of arrows started raining down on the colony. Will you hide, run, or fight back! If you choose hide go to paragraph 1 if you fight go to paragraph 2. If you want to run go to paragraph 3. You are given as many tries as you want
1 You scramble to the nearest tent you sprint in hugging your chest breathing hard another colonist is in the tent with you he asks you if you want some beer before you could answer a spear whizzes through the tent impaling the back of the man's head he falls down backwards and the impact makes the arrow go a the way through his head ultimately killing him. If you choose to fall asleep go to paragraph 4, if you want to stay up go to paragraph 5.
2 you start running towards the enemy with a pack of other people. You swerve and duck with the others. You and your group are slowly being picked off by flying tomahawks. You stop to pick the tomahawk off a fallen allies back. When you get close you try to hack down the natives but they are blocking your attacks. If you choose to give up and run choose paragraph 3. If you choose to keep attacking go to 6.
3 you run out of the sight in a panic, when you finally think you're safe you start to breathe heavy when a tomahawk brushes you're head hitting a nearby tree. You realize it's a native and you have to make a quick decision. If you choose to fight against the native go to paragraph 7 if you surrender go to 8.
4 you toss and turn until you fall asleep, and you never woke up THE END
5 you stay up horrified rocking back and forth in fear when an arrow flies through the tent that you would've missed you if you were lying down like you were sleeping but it hit you're head and died.

6 You hack and hack for a while finally you throw your tomahawk killing a native the others are mad you slowly back up. If you choose to surrender, go to paragraph 8 if you choose to run go to paragraph 3.
7 You pry the tomahawk out of the tree and sprint forward with your tomahawk. Once you're close you chucked the tomahawk with all your might ,but the native skillfully dodged your attack. He pulled a bow out of his quiver he shot real fast, you tried to dodge and was successful for a bit but then you're hand got struck with an arrow. You fall to your knees when you pull the arrow out of your hand and stab his stomach with all your might, the arrow goes through his stomach and killed him. You pulled out your arrow with intestines hanging around the ends. If you choose to run towards camp go to 9 if you choose to run the other way go to 10.
8 you surrender and the native show no mercy, a barrage of arrow heads rains down on your helpless body piercing through flesh stabbing each part of your head ,neck, shoulders and legs until you die. THE END
9 you run towards camp and almost half your friends and family were battered to a bloody pulp. If you choose to stay and watch go to 11 if you choose to fight go to 12
10 You run the other way and encounter a bear you stand still in fear not knowing what to do a minute passes when the bear finally walks away. If you go left go to 13 if you go right go to 14.
11 You watch in horror as your friends fight for their life, when you're feel something funny on your back you smack it ,you fall to the ground. You look up struggling to keep your head up. As the last thing you see is a mosquito mocking your own death.
THE END
12 You sprint down towards camp despite the engey you're anger and rage push you farther you take your arrow and slice a native's head straight off you see more coming at you. If you choose to keep arrow go to 15. If you choose to attack with his head go to 16.
13 You go left sprinting with the little energy you have left minutes feel like hours, hours feel like days until you can't go any longer and die of exhaustion right there and then.
THE END.
14 You go right and encounter a strange land with teepees and fires. A little kid saw your presence and shouted. Soon many native's come and tie you over a fire. You sweat and struggle till you fall onto ground with a thump, the native's are gone but the kid isn't. If you choose to run go to 13 if you choose to kill the kid go to 17.
15 The native's charge at you with only an arrow to attack with fear in your head you stand still till you die
THE END
16 You chuck the head at the native's knocking 3 down but eight are still attacking. With fear you flee in a panic and then you get a great idea you pick up your friends head and chuck it. Knocking down more you repeat this process till they all die. Go to 18
17 You murder the kid, you feel horrible about yourself, but you have to do what you have to do you walked into to someone's camp you can only steal one thing. If you choose bow go to 19, if you choose tomahawk go to 20, if you choose spear go to 21
18 You celebrate your victory, but it is short lived you get stabbed in the neck by a little kid with a spear.

19 You chose the bow, a woman native comes to camp you attempt to shoot her but you have no arrows. And the last words you here is. AND HER NAME IS POCAHONTAS DUH DUH SUH DUH the end
20 You pick the tomahawk and Pocahontas comes to the sight, not expecting you to be their you throw the tomahawk at her. It hit her in the chest making her fall over. If you choose to go back to the village go to 22. If you choose to stay go to 23.
21 You pick the spear when you hear footsteps it's pocahontas! You jab your spear into her chest making her fall to the ground. If you choose to stay go to 23. If you choose to go back to the village go to 24.
22 You and you're tomahawk are dashing through the woods when ten men with tomahawks rain from above but there's something funny about them their not native's… their colonists. They still look angry with each has a sword in his hand. you are terrified as they murder you. the end
23 You stay at the village when tons and tons of native's come and saw you, they don't look the slightest surprised. Before they killed you they said how they wiped out you're whole colony.

24 You head back to the village wielding you're spear twirling it in a circle once you make it back everybody is running around with no protection at all you rush down to the battlefield with your spear.
