The Trip To Plymouth
Did you know that there were over 100 people on the Mayflower? Some people had to sleep on the hardwood floor. That would not have to modern day ships. They would be able to get another bed in an instant. The pilgrims should have had a backup ship but they didn’t so they had way too many people. Also, their food supply was getting stale and bad. They were running out of stale bread and they needed more bread. If you went on the mayflower, really all you could do would be to play with the dogs and cats, read books (adult books that are too complex for kids), or chat with everyone else. The thing is the pilgrims and the sailors don’t get along. The Mayflower was a very small ship for that many pilgrims to be on. They didn’t have any electricity to get heat or non natural light. This writer thinks it was foolish to send them off with not enough room. They should have delayed the trip to build another ship. Then they would have 10 times more space.

Land On Plymouth
They ate so much corn! The pilgrims ate so much corn because they settled near a corn field and that was all they could eat. They first set foot on land very happy. The children RAN across the nice, soft land! The parents/ adults got straight to work. Squanto and the Wampanoags found the pilgrims on THEIR land! They ended up helping them plant corn and fish and then they survived. They  stayed on land for MONTHS after the long voyage. They ended up becoming one of the most well-known and successful colonies in colonial times.

Town Plans For Plymouth
The pilgrims planned on building their town with a big road going from shore to the top of the hill. They planned on storing their cannons on the top of the hill. They would build a house along the sides of the street and call it first street. They made people with move in with  smaller families because they didn’t build enough houses for everyone. The writer thinks that it was odd to have one street in a whole little town that might need more than one road. They might get more people and than  the sides of the road get filled. Then you would need another road.
Religion On Plymouth
The king did not want anyone to have any other religion other than his. He would not have anyone on his land with a different religion. The pilgrims were kicked out. They went to live where they could have their freedom. They set off to Plymouth where they could believe in their religion. They were free from the king and didn’t have to believe in the king’s beliefs. This writer thinks the king was very foolish to send off the pilgrims for that one reason. The pilgrims were being themselves and being diverse. And the king didn’t have to tell them otherwise.

Compact for Plymouth
While sailing their long, tough voyage across the sea, hoping to find a new land and a new life, the pilgrims made a compact. The compact was to make sure that the land that they settled on would have some ground rules so the town would not be complete chaos. It told you about how you are allowed to be their religion and that they are still with god. The compact was written on the mayflower and it includes all the “laws” of Plymouth. The writer wonders if the pilgrims would feel safer because they can know that there are ground rules and that they have the rules so they can be safer and also know that they are free.
