Personal Narrative
I pulled on my boots and heaved a plaid shirt over my tank top. The smell of pine needles erupted as I flung open the door. I rushed outside on a warm, sunny day. The rocks pounding under my feet as I ran to catch up with my family.
I was taking a trip to Montana with my grandparents, my aunt Jill, uncle Allen, and cousins, Emily who was six, and Andrew who was four. Of course my mom, dad, and brother Sam too. I ran across the bridge as the rushing water ran under me. As I turned the corner I saw them come into view. As I caught up I said,” Hey are we ready or what”. They all replied with a happy, joyful yes. I was practically jumping out of my boots. I couldn’t wait!
The aroma of horse hair filled the shop as the door sprang open. We filled in and sat down on the benches in the back of the shop. There were cabinets full of helmets and boots. Me and Emily already had boots because they got some for us before we left for the trip. Once everyone had helmets and boots on we headed outside and a women in the stables called us over.”Hi I’am Jenny and I will be your riding staff today. You guys can come stand on this platform.¨She pointed to a raised platform with a hole in the railing to help get on and off your horse. The first horse called up was my dad's then my moms then finally mine. My horse was named Robin Hood and had long, straight, brown tail. Jenny helped me onto my horse and lead me over to the middle of the stables to help tighten my rains.”Is this okay”Jenny said? I nodded my head. My hands felt like the pacific ocean, all wet and slimy.
“Do you like your horse Emily?” I asked.”Yea she is cool.” After everyone was on their horse we traveled up a long hill. “Robin Hood” I said “Stop eating the grass.”The grass was like a huge hershey's bar to him. He started moving again. At the top of the hill there was a big ring that looked like it was for a big rodeo or something. Emily looked back at me and asked”What is that? I do not know” I replied. “Okay this is where you will practice how to steer, go, and stop.” We followed her into the ring and formed a big circle with all the horses. “Now to turn your horse you must take the front of their reins and steer them in the direction you want them to go in. Every one try turning a a full circle with your horse.” I spun around perfectly the first time but my grandma next to me had trouble.”Try to drag her nose to the left.” She tried again. “Thanks! I think I am really getting the hang of this” I said to Emily on the other side of me.
“Now I want everyone to give their horse a big kick on the side and form a line so we can get on the trail.” I kicked Robin Hood and he jumped with a big surprise. Up ahead I saw a huge field with colors of all sorts. An amazing smell filled the air and there was a small path winding through a maze full of flowers. Roses, Poppies, Tulips, and all sorts of flowers.”This is the flower meadow so your horses may bow down and eat some” and of course Robin Hood tried to eat some. “Well atleast I know that he has good breath if he is eating so many of those flowers.”I said to my aunt. She laughed. Up ahead there was something that reminded me of a hallway because the trees were so close together that they brushed against me as Robin Hood trotted by. We approached another field but it did not have any flowers like the last one did. In the distance I heard people talking and kids playing horseshoe. “We're just up the hill from the ranch that is why you can hear so many people down there.”
I was grinning from ear to ear to see everyone so happy and to be all together as a family for a while. We came into another “hallway” and it winded down a big hill and into something that looked like the upper part of a town. “Okay adults watch the kids because we will be going across a street onto the other side”Jenny said carefully.”Okay, thanks for the warning” the adults respond. Clip clop clip clop. The horse's hooves sounded like a beat to a song. The other side of the path was a long curvy path through the woods. Back and forth up and down. I started to hear water crashing onto rocks. I got confused because there was no water to be seen. At the perfect timing I got an explanation.”You might start hearing water because we are approaching a stream” Jenny said in excitement.”Cool” Andrew said from the front of the line. The water became louder and louder as we came closer.”Watch out the path gets thin up here” Jenny warned. The stream came into view and the horses started trotting faster when they saw the water.”Robin Hood.” I said, “Don't start running.” Robin Hood slowed down.”You're like the opposite of a camel” I laughed. The horses slowly walked through the stream trying to get more time than the last to drink. The cold, smooth water felt so nice as it splashed up from the bottom of the horse. Once the horses were across the river there was a huge slope and we were traveling down hill. I looked up from my horse and saw a long tunnel running under the highway.”Are we going in that!” I shouted up to Jenny. ”Yup.” she said mischievously. Clip clip, clop clop. You could hear the echo from miles away it felt like. Once we all got through the tunnel Jenny said,”Hey do you guys want to start moving back to the ranch because it is going to take about forty-five minutes to get back to the ranch? Okay” my grandma said” That's fine”
We got back to the ranch forty minutes later and got help off our horses. My stomach was rumbling like crazy. ”Let's go eat!” I declared. Everyone laughed in agreement. We ran up the hill rocks pounding under our feet.
