Colonial Times

Introduction
Can you believe that the colonial people wore the same clothes most of the time?
You will learn about three areas in this paper. First, in colonial times there were many styles of clothes, for example for suits and exercise. Second, farming in colonial times was very important. Lastly, jobs in colonial times were important for money and health.

Clothes
A cool fact about clothes a long time ago was that they were made out of really cheap, cloth material. In Colonial times there were lots of different styles of clothes. They had workout clothes, suits, dresses, and lots more. Workout clothes were worn when they exercised. They wore shorts and a really thin shirt. In Colonial times they never really wore shorts other than when they exercised because they didn’t want people to get sick from ticks and other insects that could cause illness.

In Colonial times when kids and adults went to church they wore very nice clothes likes a shirt and skirt for girls, and jackets for boys. Boys often wore suits and shirts or long black or tan pants. Girls wore pretty dresses.

Farming

Farming was very important in colonial times. They had a lot of of different tools they used. Some of tools were spears, bow and arrow, axes, guns and masks. Farmers grew varieties of crops. They grew tobacco, wheat, corn,  barley, oats, and rice. The settlers did not own slaves. But by the early 1700s, it was the slaves who worked the fields of large plantations. Some rare things to see at a farm in colonial times were cotton, flax, and Hemp. On the farms they raised cattle, horses, hogs, sheep and chickens. From these animals, they produced many goods including dairy, beef, pork and eggs.

Some jobs colonial people had were blacksmith, really important in colonial times. There were many different jobs including Cabinetmaker, Chandler - (Candle Maker), Gunsmith and Milliner. Also, people worked for a long time, each and every day. They used a lot of tools and other materials for their jobs.

A Cobbler was very important because they made shoes for people so they could walk on dirt and gravel. A blacksmith was very very important because, he/she shaped the tools that farmers and other workers used. For example, a shovel.

I hope you enjoyed my research about the clothes, farming and jobs in Colonial times.
