Did you know that too much sugar is bad for the heart? Though skeptics would argue saying it is good for the heart and makes you live longer, after long research, this expert says that it is actually bad for the heart and not good at all. In addition to this the food dyes in candy can cause ADHD, Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder . Also the candy these days are high in sugar and can cause a bunch of health problems. It is clear that Hershey and Mars should discontinue their candies because of these reasons.
Some people disagree,saying that Hershey and Mars should keep the candy even though it has a lot of sugar in it because it has a lot of health benefits as well. Nevertheless, there are more unhealthy things outweigh healthy things about candy. For example, Twizzlers have 19 grams of sugar. This proves that a lot of sugar is consumed when you eat a little piece of candy like a twizzler . Also one York Peppermint Patty is 25 grams of sugar. That is a lot of sugar for a candy that is only .6 ounces. In addition to this, Hershey bars have 24 grams of sugar in them. I still remember when I first tried an Air Head and all I tasted was sugar. That is because it has 51 grams of sugar in it! More than soda! Furthermore, did you know that one small packet of M&M’s has 30 grams of sugar in it?
Skeptics would say that it is not true that the food dyes in candy are bad for you. But this expert argues that scientists have proof that chocolate is bad for you. For example,in the National Public Radio (NPR) Health segment titled “FDA Probes Link Between Food Dyes, Kids' Behavior”, Michael Jacobson, director of the Center for Science in the Public Interest, says, “Food dyes are added simply for their color to make foods fun. They serve no health purpose whatsoever.” The text also states, “Jacobson says there is substantial evidence showing that food dyes trigger hyperactivity in kids.” This research from the Center for Science in the Public Interest proves without a doubt the negative link between food dyes and hyperactivity. This is another reason why Hershey and Mars should discontinue making their candies. Also, food dye has bad chemicals in it. In addition to this, too much food dye can give you cancer and it can make you gain allergies. This is important because Hershey and Mars are causing some of this disease to happen and should stop. Did you know that Americans eat 5 times as much food dye as we did in 1995?
Critics argue you that if you eat candy it prevents stroke by 39 percent. While this might be true, candy can cause health problems. For example, too much candy can lead to obesity, obesity is when you are very overweight. This is a problem because a bunch of kids struggle with obesity. Also, too much candy can lead to heart disease and diabetes, diabetes is when you have too much sugar and your pancreas stops working. This tells me that at least three fourths of the sugar that causes type 2 diabetes is from candy. Lastly when you eat candy it makes you want more. To add on, this is why a lot of kids get diabetes and obesity.
This year I still remember when I ate too much candy and got a headache. It was terrible and I hated having it. Why choose to eat candy when you can eat none at all? It is full of sugar, food dyes,and can lead to health problems. So if they are taken away less health problems will be caused by candy. Even though others would say the opposite this expert did a lot of research and says that it is true. The answer is clear, candy should be discontinued. What side are you on?
