The Rainbow
Today was the day. It was my third plane ride ever. Me and my dad were heading to Miami Beach, Florida for a huge fishing trip, and boy, was I excited. I was racing as fast as I could to the check in counter. “Go faster dad!” I demanded.
“How bout you slow down,” he groaned.
But I was so excited to get on the plane that I still didn’t listen to him, so I was still zooming past other people. When we finally got to the check in counter, there were about 50 other people in line. After waiting in line for about 15 minutes , i started to get bored, so I immediately took my iPad out, and flopped down on the big, cushiony couch. I started to play NBA Jam, a animated game that lets you choose any two NBA players that you want, and then you play a game against an online opponent, but I was only able to play 2 games before my dad said “come on bug.” Bug was my nickname for my dad. When I got over there, my dad said it was time to get on the plane. I felt a surge of excitement wash over me, and then we got on the plane.
There were so many other planes getting ready for takeoff, and I started to get bored again, so I took my iPad out and started to play NBA Jam again. After about 30 minutes, I heard the engine startle up. Butterflies were in my stomach, I started to wonder. “Would the plane crash, would we get lost, would there be a huge storm, would we get to the airport. “Passengers, please fasten your seat belts because we are getting ready for takeoff” the pilot asked. Next thing I knew we were going super fast, and the only thing I could see was clouds.
Since I was asleep for 3 quarters of the time, I did not know how long it took to get to Miami. But I was relieved that we made it to Miami safely. All I knew was that it was light outside. I checked the time, 10:15. That means we were in the air for 4 hrs and 15 min. Just before we were going to get off the plane, the pilot handed me a pin in the shape of a airplane. “Thank you”
“No problem” he said. We had to get our rental car before we could go to our hotel. Fortunately, there was a rental car station right next to the airport. My dad got a 2012 Chevy Camaro. It’s top speed was 175 mph! It was pure black, and it looked like a racecar When we finally got to our hotel, I immediately flopped down on the big, fluffy bed. Then after 2 seconds, my dad said we had to get on the road again. “Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh” I groaned “It’s alright bug, we're going to Bass Pro Shops to meet a friend” he said in a excited tone. My dad didn’t tell me anything about meeting a friend, but he said it was somebody that he works with. I felt really excited when he said that we were going to Bass Pro Shops because I have always wanted to go there, but we never had the time.
When we got to bass pro shops, we were looking for my dad's friend for about 5 minutes before we found him. The man had a nice deep tan, a bald head, and he had a humane white smile. I felt nervous when I was first meeting him, he stuck out his hand. “Nice to meet you, my name is Marwan”. I think he could speak spanish, because it sounded like he had a spanish accent, but I did not want to ask him if he was from a different country because I thought that would be rude.
“Nice to meet you to, my name is Jaxon.” The only thing that we looked for were was some fishing supplies for tomorrow. Marwan said he likes to fish a lot, and he said the best bait for fishing in florida was a type of shiny bait. I started to get bored, so I asked my dad what I could do around here. “How bout you go look at the fish tank” he insisted. I thought that was a great idea, so I went to the fish tank
The tank was huge! It was at least 15 feet tall and 10 feet wide. There were about 10 different species of fish in the tank, including alligator gar, striped bass, tuna, red stripers, and a bunch of other ones I did not know about.
About after 20 minutes, my dad said it was time to go eat. I asked him what the place was called, he said it was called the Little Pub, and I had never been there before, so I was wondering how the food would taste the whole ride there.
I get why the restaurant was called the “Little Pub”. It was so small, but it had at least 4 colossal tvs, they were bigger than smartboards! My dad said we came here to eat was because a big soccer game was on. It was Arsenal (my favorite team) against Tottenham Hotspur (my least favorite team). The only thing I got to eat was chicken nuggets and fries.
At the end of the game, the both teams only had 1 goal each, so that means it was a draw. I was kind of mad I wanted Arsenal to beat Tottenham. After we ate, we immediately headed back to the hotel because me and my dad were exhausted.
When we got to the hotel I went to the pool for about an hour to take an afternoon swim. When I came back to the hotel when I flopped on the bed, as soon as my head hit the pillow, my eyes were closed.
I was woken up by something shaking me, it was still pitch black outside, I looked up, it was my dad. “Come on bug, it’s time to go to the beach.
“But I want to sleep a little longer” I groaned. My dad still made me get up, brush my teeth, and take a shower before we got on the road. I got on a bathing suit, a bandanna, a waterproof shirt, and some fishing glasses. As we were heading to the beach, my dad stopped at starbucks to get a coffee, I waited in the car thinking, “would we catch a fish, would we not, would we catch a fish, will we not”. My dad got back about 5 minutes later and he asked me, “are you ready to go catch a fish”
When we got to the beach, I was so surprised because the sea was so beautiful, it looked like a aqua turquoise, and it was as clear as glass. My dad took a picture of me next to the beach. We were waiting for the captain for about 10 minutes. I saw somebody park right next to us, I saw a glimpse of his face, it was not the captain because I recognized him. When he got out of his car I immediately noticed who it was, and I ran over to him. “Uncle Tom” I shouted. I gave him a big hug. I never get to see uncle Tom because he lives in Miami, but since we were in Miami he must have wanted to fish with us. After another 10 minutes the captain finally got here. He had midnight black hair, and sparkling blue eyes. He introduced himself, his name was Abie, and he asked me in the same way my dad did, “are you ready to catch fish”
We immediately got on the water, but before we went to catch the real fish, we had to go catch some bait. Abie told me that the bait that we were going to use is going to be tiny fish called shiners. The bait was so easy to catch that I even caught 6 in one cast. At the end of catching bait we had 100 of the little guys.
Abie told me the fish that we were going to try to catch were either Mahi-Mahi, or called a dolphin, and Cobia, fish that live at the bottom of the ocean. We went deeper into the beach until we stopped. Where we stopped was on the east side of the beach. We put bait on 5 rods so we had a better chance at catching fish. I was sitting down eating a bag of goldfish when I suddenly heard the rod go zzzzzzzzzzzzz. I shot out of my seat, grabbed the rod, and started to reel. Abie told me while i'm reeling to make the rod go up, and then make it go down, so I did that. The fish was strong, and it was far away. I caught a glimpse of something just come out of the sea. Whatever it was it had beautiful colors. It’s colors were aqua turquoise, celery green, and amber yellow. I fought with the fish, seconds turned to minutes, minutes turned to hours. “I could do this” I thought in my head, the fish started to get closer, my dad threw a spear at the fish, then he pulled the spear up. I saw something on the floor of the boat, flopping around everywhere, with blood over it’s whole body. Abie picked it up. “A Mahi-Mahi” he yelled. The fish looked like exactly how I described it. Me, my dad, uncle Tom, and Abie took a picture with me. “I did it, I did it” I thought in my head. At that moment I noticed that you can always prove yourself wrong.
