Not So Great Lesson
at the Gymnastics Studio
at the Gymnastics Studio
Maddison is one of the best students in the gymnasium studio. She would prefer to be called Maddie. She has 4 people in her family. Mom named Jennifer, Dad named David, Maddie and of course the cutest baby, Ollie, short for Oliver. Maddie’s gymnastics teacher is Maya. The manager is Manager Klaira.
“Wow you are really good Mads,” said Maya, my gymnastics teacher.
“Thank you,” I said politely.
“You know,” I Maya told me. “You can move up a level if you can do a front forward flip.”
“OH YA, I can totally do that,” I screamed.
“You didn't let me finish,” Maya said. “You have to do a front forward flip and go on the higher bar and flip and balance yourself while flipping.”
I opened my mouth. I gasped. Then I put my hands on my waist and then I said, tiredly, “Do I have to?”
“If you don't want to move up a level,” Maya said suspiciously.
“Fine,” I said, “but only this once.”
“Okay,” Maya said. She stepped away.
I went to the bar area, waited in line and when it was my turn I put some chalk on my hands and hopped on the bars!
Maya was coaching me. “Do your flip for balance,” Maya assured.
So I did my back flip twice to make sure of my balance, but at the second flip I wasn't really that high.
Maya looked at me. “Seriously,” Maya yelled.
“Okay fine,” I said with a sigh. So I went back on the bars and did a flip. I was high now.
“Push yourself up a little more,” Maya pronounced.
So I pushed myself a little more. “A little higher.”
I went up more higher without Maya telling me. I knew she was going to say, “Go up a little more.”
So I went even higher. Then I looked at her. I told her, “You wanted me to do this, right?”
“No!!’’ Maya shouted
“Uh Oh,” I said.
I did my flip. Then all of a sudden, THUMP! THUMP! THUMP!
I felt like crying but then I just said, “A little help here.”
Maya rushed to me and said, “What were you thinking?”
“What?” I blurted like it was no big deal. Maya told me to take a 5 minute break.
After the 5 minute break I saw the manager Klaira come in. So I tried tiptoed to the bars but, “Maddie over here,’ Manager Klaira screamed.
I went to her and told her, “Can you please stop calling me by my last name?’’
“Fine,’’ she told me.
“I think you should go home,’’she said.
“But why,’’ I asked her.
“You know you got hurt really bad and, well you have got to be safe so I am going to call your mom,’’ she excitedly shouted.
“Okay Okay,’’I said.
When my mom came she asked what happened and the manager replied, “Your daughter did not balance so well.”
I kind of looked shocked because manager Klaira knew exactly what happened and she lied to my mother right in the face.
Then we went in the car and my mom started talking right when she started driving. “What were you thinking,”she asked.
That is when the truth came out and that was also when my mom never trusted the next gymnastics academy, which is actually manager Klaira. She was quiet for the rest of the time.
When we got home she asked’’how is your ankle doing.’’
“Mom,” I blurted, “it's my knee. Anyway it’s doing fine.
‘‘Now go in the gymnastics room and practice the thing you didn't get right,” said Mom.
So I went to the gymnastics room and did the flip back over and higher bar thingy. I did it over and over again and then I finally got it correct. I tried doing it once more and I nailed it. I had way more time on the clock so I practiced my back over arch flip.
Once I practiced the back over arch it was dinner time. We had lasagna and some side dishes to go with it.
When I ate my lasagna, it was my bedtime. I went to bed and I had this awkward dream that I was doing an arch back over and I actually hit my knee and it broke. So crazy.
I woke up in the morning got ready for gymnastics. I went downstairs in the kitchen and said, “Mommie let's go to gymnastics.”
‘‘Come on let's go,” she said. For a minute I thought she would make me quit but no.
We arrived to gymnastics and I found Maya working with the little kids. I went to her and asked, “Do you want to go to the bars?’’
“Ya, well about that,” she continued. “Since you got hurt we want to stay out of the bars. I mean like another way to do this is to do an arch.’’
‘’Wait I didn't practice my arch. I practiced an arch back over and not an arch flip over which is called a arch,’’ I said while I was reacting a little too much.
‘’It is fine, just try. You know it is easier than it looks and you can move a level by doing this,’’she said.
“Fine,’’I yelled. So I went on the mat and I did my position on the back bend.
I was back ended and I had my feet all the way high then backbend, backbend, backbend. Then for the final challenge, the flip. I raised myself super high and then I was in the air I shouted out, “MAYA, I can do it.”
She looked at me, “Oh Oh Uh Oh,’’ and she looked scared.
“Am I doing anything wrong. Or am I--AHHHHH AHHHH.” THUD!!!! THUMP! THUMP! THUMP!
Maya ran towards me, “Are you okay? I mean like are you hurt? I mean, MANAGER KLAIRA COME HERE PLEASE.’’
I was laying there. Everyone stared at me and kept talking about me. I felt embarrassed. So I decided to have some fun and make drama.
“My ankle!” I screamed. “Now this time it was my ankle.’’ Now that’s how to make drama happen. I was about to say that but manager Klaira was coming.
“Manager Klaira I can explain why all this happened?’’Maya said.
“I would actually like to hear this,’’I said normally. I was listening but then I stopped because she is telling the truth and it was about mom.
“That explains it,’’ Manager Klaira said. ’’Call the hospital and Maddie's Mom.”
I listened and I talked but then I felt a little sleepy
I woke up and I was on a weird bed with my knee having a cast on it and, “Oohh!”I yelled. “Free food.”
I went to the trays and then WHOA!!! I slipped on the ground.
I heard footsteps. I was scared, I leaned towards the bed. I tried to climb up but then there was the nurse.
“She's awake,” yelled the nurse. Maya rushed here.
“Get up from there,” Maya screeched. She helped me up and told me sarcastically, “What were you doing down there?”
“I was getting the free food,” I said.
“That was a trap,” Maya said.’’Your mom told us after you wake up after sleeping for awhile, you love eating. Speaking of your mom, I am going to call her.”
“JENNIFER! she's awake.” Maya yelled to my mom.
Mom rushed to me and asked, “Are you okay?”
“I am fine,” I told Mom. “But I am wondering why is my ankle wrapped around a cast.”
She tried to say quickly, “You broke your ankle.”
“Whhhhhhhaat?”I was surprised. “I just hit my knee. Was it really that bad?”
“I am afraid so,” Mom replied.
“Oh ya forgot to mention,” Maya said laughing. “You know how hard it was waking you up. I mean like you are such a deep sleeper.´´
´´What?”I blurred again. “Ḿom I am a deep sleeper because whenever baby Ollie cries I wake up that second.´´
´´You are not a deep sleeper,´´Ḿom pointed out. “It is just because you were really injured and no one noticed.´´
´´But I made up a whole scene and everyone was worried,” I said.
“Ẃait,´´Ḿaya said looking frightened. ´´I was laughing for no reason.´´
´´I am afraid so,´´Mom said again.
´´Speaking of Ollie,´´ I said. ´´Where is he?´´
´´That is where the fun part comes,´´Mom smiled. ´´Tada.´´
Ollie walked in the door with crunches that were way too big for him.
´´Ahh Ollie has crunches, but for who?´´I asked.
´´That's the surprising part,´´Mom said. “They’re for you.´´
´´What, but why?´´I asked.
´´To get you out quicker you will need crunches,” Mom said.
´´NO No,´´ I said. ´´I am not good for crunches.´´
“I mean,´´ my mom began, ´´you can stay here and let the doctor do some shots and-.´´
´´Fine I will do it,´´ I just screamed.
´´She doesn't let anyone finish their sentences, right?”Mom whispered into Maya's ear.
´´Tell me about it,´´ Maya answered.
´´You know I can hear you two right?´´I said.
´´Yes we know,´´they both said at the same time.
´´Come here Ollie,´´I said. He came near me.
I picked him up. “Are you okay Maddie?” said baby Ollie.
´´I am fine” I told him. “I just noticed my crazy dream came true.”
“What dream,”Maya asked Mom.
“I have no idea, ”Mom replied back.
“I can still hear you,” I said, “Anyway let's get started with the crunches,”
They looked weirdly at me.
“Just give me the crunches,”I said.
I stabilized myself on the crunches and voila, it was the perfect length.
“Wow,” Mom said. “It is like nothing happened to you.”
Then we went out of the hospital and we all pretended nothing happened. I also had to quit gymnastics for a while but I managed.
So my Knee injury got better and better everyday. It felt like nothing exactly happened.
The next month Mom said, “It has already been a month so try standing without your crutches.’’
“Okay fine,’’I said. So I took off my crunches carefully and then yay! I could stand.
“Wow, ’’I said,’’It is a miracle. Let me try to walk.’’ So I walked and I walked and, ah, I fell.
“You know what,’’ I said, “I am going to just stand without my crutches.”
‘’I think you only need one crutch,’’ Mom suggested. “Because…” She took off one of my crutches, “and there you go.’’
I tried to walk without one crutch and it worked. So the rest of the time I walked without one crutch.
