Plymouth

Introduction
Did you know that the Pilgrims were so religious that they thought God sent Squanto to Plymouth to help them? Plymouth was one of the first settlements in the United States. Plymouth was famous because of the history, the geography, and the problems and the successes of the colonists.

Plymouth’s history
Plymouth’s history started when people in England wanted religious freedom in 1620. First, was really hard for them because it was their first winter and hard to grow crops, and a lot of people died because of diseases, no homes, and no food or water. Then, one hundred Pilgrims were squeezed in one tiny room in the mayflower ship, twenty-two were children. When people went to Plymouth, there was something called the Mayflower Compact which is basically an agreement. Also, a Native American named Squanto from the nearby Wampanoags had co.me to the Pilgrims. Squanto taught them important things like how to plant corn, get fish, and get sweet syrup from maple trees. There was also a grouped named the Separatists. There was an old stone in Plymouth too. People in Plymouth thought that town was a symbol of freedom and a symbol of England. Lastly, Pilgrims did not listen to demands by their king and by the soldiers.
Plymouth’s Geography
The location is near the Atlantic ocean and Borders Massachusetts Bay Colony. Plymouth also borders Cape Cod Bay too. It was very snowy in the winter when they found it. Back then, it was very difficult to plant crops and people died in the snow storm. A lot of people had no homes in the snow storm. This researcher thinks that it must be very tough for them because they did not have coats or blankets during the storm. Did you know that there was a thing called the governor also known as the president? In 1621, William Bradford became the governor for 30 years! This researcher is wondering if another governor got elected just like what happens now today! Would you wonder about that too?

                      Plymouth’s Problems and Successes
“If you don’t work you don’t eat” This researcher thinks that this is a very bad thing, like today, if you don’t work, you still can eat. Could it be that strict parents still do that today? This researcher thought that the first winter at Plymouth must be hard for the Pilgrims because they did not have that much experience and must be hard for the food because of the winter. Squanto told the pilgrims that Squanto’s tribe has been killed by a extremely bad overseas disease that they caught from the English and French fishermen. Massasoit was the chief of the Wampanoag people. Squanto helped to arrange the peace treaty between Massasoit and the pilgrims. The Wampanoags also invited Massasoit to a feast on Thanksgiving day. Did they cook food differently back then, then now? Wampanoag people. Squanto helped to arrange the peace treaty between Massasoit and the pilgrims. The Wampanoags also invited Massasoit to a feast on Thanksgiving day. Did they cook food differently back then, then now?
                           Conclusion
Above all, This researcher thought it was very hard for the Pilgrims when they faced the first winter and this researcher is feeling very bad for them because they couldn’t have that much food in the winter. That is what happened in Plymouth during the first winter they experience. This researcher is saying that they had to do a lot of building and a lot of tiring work! Do you wonder how colonists sleep, or was there another type of bed then today? Or in another way, did they ever sleep that much because of all the business? They must be very creative and not lazy, like finding hay, wood, and food for their homes. Could you imagine that you are living inside a house that you made with your bare hands? Another question is, would you be not lazy and make a house, back then? The researcher got some of this history from the website The Ducksters. The researcher also got this from the History Alive book.
