What were the schools and Chores??

It surprises me that the boys went to school longer than girls. Also if you want a school in your town you would need 50 families or more to make a school. The next  topic is that men and women work the same amount . The last one is what chores the kids did to help around the house. So let’s go!!!!!!!!!!!

1: What were school requirements for the schools??

You will need to have 50 families need to be in the town in order to build a school in the town.You might not have enough money to go to a school. If that happens you will work around your house to do chores. The books were really expensive.

The school was a one room school. When the kids started to read their parents wrote letters on the dirt floor and the kids would figure the letters out. It was a really slow process. The first school was called The Common School. If you did not behave in school you would get a  punishment. If you bit your fingers you would sit on a bench you would need to put a card around your neck that says BITE FINGER BABY.

In the next subtopic ,will be about the difference between men and women.Men and women surprisingly work the same amount!!!

What are the men and women jobs??

Women worked just as hard as as men.Women did a lot of things around the house. They prepared the meals,sewed and mended clothes, made candles, gardened, prepared meals for winter, wove cloths, and raised the chickens . During the spring they would be tilling and planting the fields.The men took care of  livestock,chopped wood,fixed fences,and repaired the house.

There were many jobs for men like the cobbler, the hatter , the blacksmith, the pewterer, the tanner, the silversmith,the cabinetmaker, the clockmaker, the miller, the wheelwright, the cooper, the barber, the taylor, and the whitesmith.

Also the men went to school longer than women because men needed to run the farm.There were many jobs that men could do, but not many women could do.

In the next chapter you will learn about what chores kids did.The boys played so much more than the girls.

3:What were kid’s chores

Here are some of the chores kids did. There were some around the house, farm, and the tavern.The ones around the tavern were make the beds for people who are coming in and out of the tavern. If you were a boy, you would  help your dad in the tap room.

The girls sewed samplers with their mothers and help make candles. They also had some free time to play games. The girls liked to play with dolls. The boys liked to fop spin,bang drums,pop popguns. They had hoops to roll,marbles to shoot,and fly kites.The boys helped the father with his work and the girls helped their mother. This way they also learned the skills they would need when they were older. You may have thought, that women went to school the a long as boys did,but actually, boys went to school longer than than girls.

Children had sack races and played tag, marbles, hopscotch, leapfrog, and Blindman’s Buff. They flew kites and went fishing and swimming.

Children did not have Nintendo, TV, or many books to read, so they often created their own games. They spent so much time in the schoolroom and doing chores that outdoor games were most appealing to them.
