DARE

Can you believe that over 400,000 people die from smoking every year? It’s true! I learned it in D.A.R.E. What is D.A.R.E? D.A.R.E is Drug Abuse Resistance Education. It teaches students about safety, and avoiding smoking, drugs and alcohol. It also helps students avoid strangers and people who smoke. D.A.R.E. has its own decision model to help students make good choices. Now I will tell you more about D.A.R.E.
The first thing we learned in D.A.R.E. was about cigarettes. Cigarettes have over 200 known drugs. One of them is nicotine. It is addictive, which means you crave more. It is very hard to resist. Cigarettes can give you lung cancer. Lung cancer kills many people each year. We also learned about alcohol. Alcohol is okay if you are 21 or older and don’t drink very much. Too much alcohol can get you killed or even worse. It is especially bad for you if you are under the drinking age. Very few teenagers smoke or drink. Most teenagers make good choices. Now I will tell you how to use the D.A.R.E decision model. It helps make good decisions.
The D.A.R.E decision model is: define, assess, respond, evaluate. It helps you make choices. Here is an example. Jim is waiting for the bus. He notices some high schoolers smoking. They ask Jim if he wants to smoke with them. Define: The problem is that some kids are asking if Jim wants to smoke. Assess: He can say no or smoke with them. Respond: I should not smoke, so no thank you. Evaluate: I think I made the right choice because smoking is addictive and might eventually kill me. That was an example of using the D.A.R.E decision model. The decision model helps make good decisions. If you ever end up in a situation like the Jim example then you should use the D.A.R.E decision model. Now I will tell you how I plan to use the things I learned in D.A.R.E.
How will I use  D.A.R.E. in my life? I will use it in many different ways. I choose not to smoke, not to take illegal drugs, not to drink excessive alcohol, and to avoid anything with nicotine. These are very important choices. D.A.R.E. was a great class and It taught me important things. Students should always avoid violence, people selling cigarettes and drugs. It is time to wrap up my D.A.R.E. essay.

D.A.R.E. is great for learning how to be safe and how to make good choices. It’s important to stay away from drugs and cigarettes. They both kill many people every year. That is why  D.A.R.E. is important.
