Space Mountain

“Please!” I begged.  “Can we go on Space Mountain?¨ “Alright.” Dad sighed. “The line’s gigantic!” Dad exclaimed.  It smelled like oil, because we were in front of a race track. I heard roaring race cars’ engines. Gabi, my sister, was with us because she was going on the ride too.  She was actually the one who recommended Space Mountain to me. I was so curious what it was like.  Was it fast?  Was it slow?  I kept asking myself these questions over and over, like a tape playing through my head.

“I’ll take Zach and Matt on some short rides while you guys go on this coaster.’’ explained our Mom. They left, and we were in line waiting…. and…. waiting.  It was kinda dark and kinda scary inside. The building was a ginormous, round, dim dome. We were halfway through the line, when l got bored out of my mind. But luckily, we got to a part where there were arcade games on the wall. Gabi and I played them all to pass the time.

Then, WE were at the front of the line, and my heart was pounding. I was so excited!  I climbed into the coaster, pulled down the safety harness, and it made a “putt putt’’ sound. Suddenly,  the coaster lunged forward, and we disappeared into the darkness of space. The ride zoomed left, then right, then left and right again. I got the answer to my question. Space Mountain is super fast!

Ahead, I spotted a tunnel, and it made a horrible “reek” sound. I was frozen scared and annoyed,  because there were even more tunnels after that one. Horrible, flashing, red tunnels. Thankfully, the ride was almost over.  But, there was a big curve, and it had the coaster heading straight for a huge piece of solid metal.  I started to panic!

We were about to hit the metal when “whish”, the coaster miraculously swerved and stopped. The ride was done. “THAT… WAS...AWESOME!” I screamed. We met back with my Mom and my brothers. They said they had gone on the Winnie the Pooh ride three times while we were inside of Space Mountain.

“It took us soooo long.” I mumbled to myself.  And, I was exhausted! We finally headed back to our parked car. It was super hot, inside and out,  just like an oven!  I thought to myself,  I am taking a nap when I get back to the hotel, but I fell asleep before we got there. What a great day!
