The tea party was on December 16, 1773, when a group of colonists, dressed up as Mohawk Indians and dumped all the tea on the ships into the Boston Harbor. They dumped 92,000 pounds of tea into the Harbor! That's a lot of tea!

Why did they do it?
Throwing a bunch of tea into a ocean seems a little “unusual” but, they had their reasons. The colonists were very angry at the British government because they told them that they were only allowed to buy tea from the East India Trading company, which was a British tea company. They were also told that they had to pay high taxes on the tea that they were buying.

After the tea party:
After the tea party when London learned what had occurred, the British government decided to close the Boston port and put all of Boston under military control. The colonists called this punishment the Intolerable Acts. The colonists were so angry over the Intolerable Acts, that delegates from 12 other colonies formed the First Continental Congress, and they all agreed to stop the trade with England!

Conclusion:
The Boston Tea Party was a turning point in history for the Colonist and an important event in the creation of the Continental Congress. The events that occurred after would lead the colonists to continue fighting against the British government and it rule over them.  This event was the first resistant act of the American colonists and would eventually lead to the American Revolution.
