Billy

The Life of a Water Droplet

“Ow! Don’t step here! That hurts!” Billy the water droplet had just been stepped on for the 197th time today. He definitely wasn’t in a good mood. If you are a water droplet that has gotten stepped on 197 times, you certainly wouldn’t be in a good mood either. Suddenly the sun peeked through the clouds. Well, just a matter of time before I evaporate back into the clouds thought Billy. And sure enough, 2 days later Billy was evaporating.

Weeeeeee! Billy loved flying through the sky in his cloud. He loved finding out where he would land. He had previously landed in Fairfield County, CT. He wanted to go somewhere else. He suddenly felt the air get cold, really cold. He unexpectedly froze into a snowflake. He saw a sign from down below. It read: “Welcome to Colorado’s Rocky Mountains!” “Yes!” Billy cried. Another raindrop had once told him about how great the Rocky Mountains were. Billy was so excited!

As he looked around at the faces of all the snowflakes, he suddenly saw a familiar face. “Will!” he yelled. “Billy! How’s it going?” “It’s going well! Where have you been recently?” Billy had met Will a couple weeks ago in a cloud and they instantly became friends. “I just came from San Francisco, California. It’s beautiful up there! I landed on a San Francisco Giants players hat! It was awesome!” “Well, you had a better time than I had. I got stepped on 197 times! Can you believe it!” “Wow, I feel bad for you.”

Will suddenly noticed something wasn’t right. And then he realized what the problem was. “Uhh, Billy? I think we are starting to FALL!” “AH!” they yelled. They were turning from condensation to precipitation. Plop! They had fallen onto one of the peak’s of the Rocky Mountains. Billy then realized that people were skiing right past them! And then, Billy’s worst nightmare came true. “Ow!” Zoom! A ski dashed right past them, flinging them right back into the air for a few seconds.

Billy and Will talked with other snowflakes over the next couple of days about their previous journeys and where they would like to visit. And finally, 2 weeks later, they finally started to evaporate into the sky and turn into condensation. “Weeeeee!” They both yelled as they were lifted back into the sky. They both agreed that this was their favorite part of the cycle. They both decided that they wanted to land somewhere in Florida.

The journey was starting to take a long time to get to wherever they were going. “This is a little odd,” Will commented. “I totally agree,” Billy replied. One week after they left the Rocky Mountains of Colorado, they realized why the journey was taking so long. “Florida!” they both yelled in harmony.

Even better, they realized it wasn’t just Florida. It was Disney World in Florida! As they were getting ready to parachute down from the clouds, they realized they were right over the best ride in Disney World! They were lucky because they loved rides. They started falling to the ground as precipitation right over the ride. “Ahhhhhhhh!” Billy and Will screamed. “Ouch!” they landed right on the front end of the roller coaster. Suddenly, the roller coaster started to move. It zoomed right around the track and went on a huge loop. “Weeeeeeeee!” they yelled out with many other water droplets and humans. After a 5 minute ride, the roller coaster stopped. They were disappointed that the ride was over when Will suddenly realized something.

“Billy! I just realized that we will be able to ride this roller coaster until we evaporate back into the clouds!”  “Yes!” Billy cried out in excitement. As the days passed, rain kept pouring into Florida, so Will and Billy chatted with other water droplets and rode the roller coaster many times. One water droplet said they had just experienced a one month journey to Florida all the way from Russia! Billy was amazed because the longest journey he had had was the 1 week journey from Colorado to Florida. After 2 weeks of fun in Disney World, the sun finally peeked from the clouds. And, two days after that, Billy and Will started to evaporate.

“Here we go again!” said Billy. “Let’s do this!” said Will. And off they went.
